Karel Javůrek

Karel Javůrek (1815–1909) was a Czech painter, known for his history paintings. He received his initial training with Christian Ruben after spending time in František Tkadlík's studio; he then followed Jaroslav Čermák to Antwerp, where he studied with Gustave Wappers. Further study in Paris followed, with Thomas Couture. Consequently, many of Javůrek's paintings, though based on Czech history, bore some evidence of French and Belgian influence.
